WABDL Midwest Regional Bench Press and Deadlift Championships - Minneapolis, Minnesota - May 27, 2006

This was a terrific meet.  Unfortunately, I only have a few pictures.  It's a bummer when you have a great performance but not many pictures.  It makes one consider bringing along an extra person to every meet just to take pictures.

Opening attempt with 556.5 in my 54 Titan F6.  That's Ron L'Hullier spotting, my first coach (along with Steve Kehrer), and the man who got me into the sport back in 1985.
Second attempt with 666.7 in the Titan Super Plus, a Katana prototype.  Just as I received the "press" command, the bar went to my belly.  I needed more weight to get a higher touch.
Third Attempt with 677.7.  This is just before touch.  The lockout was a tough fight, but I got three whites.
This is a horribly out-of-focus picture of the 677.7 on the way up.  Somehow, though, it looks cool.  Stare at the picture long enough, and you can see the bar moving.  Have a drink or two, and it's moving for sure.
Deadlift opener with 606.2.  Notice I wear the belt with the buckle in back.  This makes for less of the belt getting pinched between belly and thighs on setup.  The dark smudges on the belt are actually autographs of lifters.
Second attempt with 650.2.  Gus thought I needed another attempt with a "moderate" weight before trying 700.
Third attempt with 701.9.  This was a Master 40-46 Super Heavyweight National and World Record.  I didn't find out until after the lift.  Kind of nice . . . takes the pressure off.
Video of the 701.9.  At this bodyweight (311.5), I'm out over the bar much more than I am at a lighter bodyweight.  This makes for a much more "brute force" pull.
